GREENVILLE AVENUE, DALLAS, TX

 

Project included paving, street-scape, drainage and utility improvements along Greenville Avenue from Alta Street to Bell Avenue. The Greenville Avenue project included the challenge of minimizing impact to both pedestrian and vehicular access throughout construction to alleviate disruptions throughout construction to commercial businesses located within the project limits.

Traffic Engineering Services

 

• Developed traffic control plans to minimize

potential disruption to numerous commercial

businesses located within the project limits

during construction.

 

Paving Design Services

 

• Prepared design plans for reconstruction of

approximately 800 LF of 26-foot wide,

reinforced concrete pavement, driveways,

sidewalks and barrier free ramps.

 

• UEG managed design of associated

streetscape improvements; such as

landscaping, benches, landscape walls, and

lighting.

Utility Design Services

 

• Designed approximately 800 LF of 12-inch

water main.

 

• Required utility coordination efforts to identify location and elevation of franchise utilities.

 

Drainage Design Services

 

• Analyzed existing drainage system and

prepared drainage area map.

 

• Designed over 800 LF of 42-inch to 54-inch

RCP storm main, and associated laterals and

inlets.

SOUTHWELL ROAD, DALLAS, TX

 

Project included pavement reconstruction of Southwell Road from Ables to Shady Trail. Project also included associated drainage and utility improvements. The Southwell Road project utilized collaborative design efforts of multiple sub-consultants to prepare comprehensive set of plans.

• Provided quality control and technical review of associated drainage improvements.

Utility Design Services

 

• Project also includes design of associated utility improvements, including over 2,200 LF of 8-inch to 12-inch water and wastewater main and 820 LF of 30-inch sewer main.

Drainage Design Services

 

• Replacement of wastewater mains at significant depth ,  in excess of ten feet ,  requires additional trench width and safety precautions.  In consideration of the additional space needs during construction, it is valuable to prepare a corresponding traffic control     plan to ensure mobility and accessibility throughout construction.

DOLPHIN HEIGHTS AREA, DALLAS, TX

 

Project included pavement reconstruction & resurfacing of five streets, one alley in East Dallas. Project also included associated drainage utility improvements. The Dolphin Heights project utilized collaborative design efforts of  sub-consultants to prepare comprehensive set of plans.

Paving Improvements

 

• Prepared design plans for reconstruction of approximately 2,500 LF of 26-foot wide, reinforced concrete pavement, driveways, sidewalks and barrier free ramps along Beall

Street, Mingo Street, Detonte Street and Silver Avenue.

 

• Oversaw and managed design of approximately 500 LF of 10-foot wide, reinforced concrete alley pavement.

 

Drainage Improvements

 

• Analyzed existing drainage system and prepared drainage area map and associated storm sewer improvements.

 

Utility Improvements

 

• Designed over 4,000 LF of 8-inch water and wastewater.

 

Lessons Learned

 

• The cost-effectiveness of asphalt resurfacing versus concrete replacement should be evaluated in instances of street or alley segments slated for water, wastewater, and / or storm drainage replacements. Due to required trench widths and City of Dallas Pavement Cut & Repair Standards, it is often more cost-effective long term to opt for full depth concrete replacement.
